Green Fees & Green Profits
What is a Green Fee?
We recommend charging an optional £1 Green Fee to your clients, per service, to cover the costs of your recycling and get clients involved in your sustainability journey.
Why Charge a Green Fee?
By charging a Green Fee, you're clearly communicating to your clients what you're doing to be more sustainable - and taking them on the journey with you! Our survey showed that salons who charge a Green Fee attracted more new clients than those who didn't.
From a practical perspective, having the Green Fee separate makes it easy to see the recycling income on your P&L.
How much can I Profit?
The average grooming salon, where 100% of clients pay a Green Fee, profits £20 per box (dependent on VAT and taxes). The main thing is that your recycling costs are covered, and you will also save money on your general waste service. Even if not all of your clients pay a Green Fee, you should cover the majority of your cost. Use the calculator below to get a more accurate estimate!
How Will my Clients React?
Whilst most of our grooming salons have no problem with their clients reacting to Green Fees, if you're unsure, just ask your clients! Either do an Instagram poll or speak to your clients about how they'd feel knowing that you'd be recycling their hair, and if they'd be happy to pay a small contribution towards it.
