The hairy waste problem

Pet hair doesn't
have to become rubbish

Grooming salons sweep up huge amounts of pet hair every day. Across UK and Irish grooming businesses, thousands of tonnes could be entering general waste every year.

2,500+

tonnes of pet hair are thrown into general waste every year.

That's thousands of tonnes of material with potential uses being treated as rubbish simply because groomers haven't traditionally had another option.

So what could happen to it instead?

By separating pet hair from general waste, it can be collected and put to better use through recycling and reuse projects.

FAQs

What is Green Groomers Collective?

Green Groomers Collective helps pet grooming salons recycle dog and pet hair that would otherwise go to landfill. We provide an easy collection service so groomers can divert their grooming waste into a range of sustainable recycling projects across the UK.

How much can I profit?

The average grooming salon, where 100% of clients pay a Green Fee, profits over £50 per box (dependent on VAT and taxes). The main thing is that your recycling costs are covered, and you will also save money on your general waste service. Even if not all of your clients pay a Green Fee, you should cover the majority of your cost. Use the calculator below to get a more accurate estimate!

How does pet hair recycling work?

Simply order one of our Returns Boxes, collect clean pet hair as you groom, and when the box is full, seal it and arrange a free return using the included shipping label. We then sort and send the hair to our recycling partners for reuse.

Why should groomers recycle pet hair?

Every year, large quantities of pet hair are disposed of as general waste. Recycling pet hair helps reduce landfill waste, supports innovative environmental projects, and gives your salon a meaningful sustainability story to share with customers.

Can mobile dog groomers join?

Absolutely. Whether you work from a salon, home studio, or mobile grooming van, our Returns Boxes are designed to make recycling simple wherever you groom.

Where is Green Groomers Collective Available?

Nationwide across the UK, and in Ireland.

Why shouldn't pet hair go to landfill?

When pet hair is thrown away, it becomes another waste product entering landfill or energy-from-waste facilities. In landfill, bags of pet hair will release methane - a very potent greenhouse gas. Recycling keeps this natural material in circulation and supports more sustainable alternatives.

Can cat hair be recycled too?

Yes. We accept both dog and cat hair, provided it is clean and free from contamination.

We accept hair from all breeds. Different hair types simply have different recycling opportunities depending on their characteristics.

Does the hair need to be clean?

Hair should be clean and flea-free. We cannot accept contaminated materials, rubbish, sharp objects or excessive moisture inside the Returns Boxes.
